On March 27, 2018, faculty staff listened to the information about the mechanisms and regularities of formation of large landslides and overheads in seismically active and glacier nearby zones.

The aim of the project was to determine the mechanisms and patterns of formation of large landslides and overheads in seismically active and glacier nearby zones.
On the basis of modern state analysis of the origin and development of mechanisms and regulations landslide processes, the main active forces that can break the slope are considered: mass weight of the mining rocks, seismic impacts, filtration flow pressure. The latter can cause a sharp decrease in firmness and interact with them in case of being nearby the glaciers.
The mathematical modeling algorithm of landslide development process is implemented in three stages: First - determination of the static tense-deformed mountain range land-sliding and consideration of the massive disturbance within the linear elasticity theory; Second - determination of seismic tense-deformed condition within the draft plastic problem for which the results obtained at the first stage are the initial data; Third - the downstream of mountain rocks, which are considered as a blunt fluid flow. The present situation of landslides and mudflows in Zhinvali reservoir zone is presented. Landslide monitoring methods and means are made, as well as preventive measures and stabilization measures. The 5-level scheme of early warning system of landslides is proposed.
In the framework of the grant project, participation was held at two international conferences, and two articles were published in the reviewed journals according to the results of the work.
