Erasmus+ - Course on Georgian Viticulture - Winemaking, Technological Characteristics, Approaches in the Field at UNIMI

On 2-8 June Prof. Nino Chkhartishvili, Acting Head of the Viticulture and Oenology Department of GTU Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Bio-systems Engineering visited University of Milan (Italy) within Erasmus+ mobility project for teaching activities coordinated by UNIMI.
She conducted lecture course "Georgian viticulture - winemaking, technological characteristics, approaches in the field" discussing with the students issues related to Georgian viticulture and winemaking, technological characteristics and the Georgian wine in the world market.
During the course, she presented documentary film on Georgian viticulture and winemaking prepared by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia as well. The film is the document on the 8000-year-long history of the world's leading lecturers, including professors of the University of Milan, archaeological excavations and researches. Italian students received information on international projects and relations that are currently being held at the Georgian Technical University in the same direction. She also spoke about the reintegration of these relations between GTU and UNIMI.
At the end of the lecture, traditionally Georgian wine - in particular, Kvevri and Imeretian wine tasting was held. Italian Prof. Stepheno Corsso noted that both types of wine are very interesting products for the international market, which requires a thorough study and marketing research.
During her mobility stay at UNIMI, young Georgian Professor held meetings with Professors from Milan Technical University (Vineyard and Winemaking fields). There were discussed several joint projects focused on technology and wine marketing, which will be implemented in the nearest future with the involvement of these two universities.
For the monitoring purposes Prof. Nino Chkhartishvili met GTU students at UNIMI. These 5 students are from GTU viticulture English Master's program, pursuing their studies at UNIMI Viticulture Department as GTU Erasmus+ students. They are taking course of lectures and practical courses, conducting research and actively engaged in the university activities.
At UNIMI Prof. Chkhartishvili participated in traditional Annual Open Day of the University of Milan together with the Georgian students as well.
It should be mentioned that within the MoU signed between UNIMI and GTU in 2017, double-degree Viticulture and Oenology Bachelor program has been implementing, which currently has 60 students.
